In general, this can be done. However it is complicated by the fact that
Vista is already installed.
Step one of a rather complex process is to find ALL the laptop drivers that
are XP compatable, and save tham to perhaps a CD. While you are at it, you
should also do the same thing for the Vista versions of the drivers.

You may end up having to make or obtain an install CD for your version of
Vista, install XP first, then install Vista, preserving XP, then setting up
as a dual boot system.
