For those who like to tweak their Windows 7 Services I have created this free application for The Windows Club: SMART Utility.
It can simply be downloaded and used as a portable application to customize your Windows 7 services settings, to meet your requirements. With judicious tweaking, it can make your system faster, as you will be disabling services which you do not require.
You can always tweak your services manually individually, but what this utility does is automate the entire process to give you the desired settings. Based on the recommendations of the BlackVipers Windows 7 Service Configuration Guide, the utility offers 3 sets of pre- configured tweaks :
1. Safe
2. Tweaked
3. Advanced or BareBones
The utility has set the Presets to check for Service before applying Tweak. There is also a button to re-set services to Windows 7 Default Settings.
Quick Rundown of Operations:
1. Click a Service to get additional information about it.
2. Double-Click a Service to Automatically Start or Stop it.
3. Right-Click a Service to View and set StartUp Options (Automatic, Manual & Disabled).
4. Select a Service and Click Open File Location to Locate Service Executable (Does not work on svchost, so if you happen to click a svchost and it opens up your Documents Folder, don’t be alarmed.).
5. Click Refresh To reload the list of Services.
6. Click a preset (Default, Safe, Tweaked, Advanced/BareBones), to set preconfigured Tweaks.
7. The Safe setting is (you guessed it!) safe! Tweak and Advanced settings, are for Advanced users to set their Services.
Can be downloaded here
I am pleased to have found a place to share my applications with everyone and I thank the staff at TWC for allowing me this pleasure
Though designed for Windows 7 if I get enough good feedback and time I may release a Vista version as well

Its a great idea from L.W.
Many follow BlackVipers for tweaking their Services. This app just automates the process.
If anyone wants to know what the pre-sets do, please refer the BlackVipers Windows 7 Service Configuration Guide.
JottiScan is showing the file as being all clear!
One more useful softie from twc. Congratulations LW.

It looks a great free utility to try, without too many efforts.
Thank you for this release.
I keep getting an "Exception Error" when I click Apply Settings.
Options - Tweaked or Advanced.
Error Message - Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Tried both as admin and "normal" - got the error message each time.
After posting earlier I opened my source back up and double checked to make sure I didn't miss something and I apologize I missed 1 little word. I have fixed the error and as soon as I get to talk to Admin, I'll have them upload the fixed version. Thanks for letting me know about this and keep an eye out for updated version![]()
