At most you would have two. that would be if you have "open windows as a separate process" enabled (through folder options)

3.Use the Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) to launch the explorer.exe again (Or press CTRL+ALT+DEL to perform a restart/logoff).
4.When the Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) starts again, it will recreate a correct Icon-Cache file.

(Maybe if I ever get enough time to work on it, I'll update the application to work for XP as well)
I did what you suggested. Now there is no Iconcache.db. How do I get one?

Windflower: Yes you should only have one instance of explorer.exe. I apologize. I pasted the instructions over and didn't edit it.

Elmer: Yes this could be done with a batch file. I tend to steer clear of writing them though

    Thanks for your response.

As I mentioned, I did what you suggested, but now I have no IconCache.db. How do I get one? (Sorry for being such a pain.)

It will rebuild itself (as a hidden file, again) eventually.

Thank you. Is there a time line on eventually -- days, weeks, months? :-)

More seconds, minutes, odd occasion a couple or more hours.

As long as your icons display OK, I wouldn't worry about it.

None of the Office 2010 icons display correctly. they all have the same generic icon.

When you click the icon I'm assuming it still works. Right-click the icon to see if the correct icon is displayed in the properties.

Yes, the icon still works when I click it. However, the correct icon is not displayed in the properties. When I click on "change icon", none of the Office 2010 icons are offered as a choice.
