Default Can't Install MS Office 2010 Professional Plus - Error code: 1603

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium machine with Office 2007 Pro installed.

I wanted to try Office 2010 without removing Office 2007. However, when I tried to install it I get the following error:

Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus has encountered an error during setup. I took a look at the setup log and it is error 1603.

Now, please do not tell my try the solution on Microsoft's Office Social site. I've tried that and several things, but nothing seems to work and I am at my wits end. Someone, please help.

Here is the end of the log:

This can occur when the installed edition is different from the one you are trying to upgrade it to. Or it could be a a permission issue.

Please try to run the upgrade as an admin and see if it helps.

    Also see;
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 encountered an error during setup
You receive an "error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation" error message when you try to install a Windows Installer package

But I'm sure you must have seen both these threads.

Unless someone else comes up with a solution here, perhaps the option for you would be a clean install.

Can't you read? I said I already tried the tips of Microsoft's site. I did as admin also. I want another tip to try that hasn't been mentioned. Both Office 2007 and 2010 are the Pro Plus Edition.

Though your comment was quite rude, I'll give you a couple tips to try

Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office key in the registry (Start Menu\Run\Regedit

    and also

When running the installer make sure to unselect Business Connectivity

Well, 1603 is an error message which is displayed by the Windows Installer engine and is a general error code and most of the times its not conclusive!

    Few Suggestions -

    1. See if you have any active process of office running on your machine. For eg: Onenote will be running, and you can find it in the system Tray. Close all the active programs. and then do the installation.

    2. If there was a pending reboot, perform the system reboot before you update the application components.

    3. Be sure that, you choose Upgrade and not Custom Install, while install Office 2010. I am still not clear, on your real need for performing an upgrade, while you can always remove the earlier product and install the new one.

Here is a outlay for 1603 Error - Fatal error, Hope it would help!

    Lemme know, how it goes!
