Windows 7 SP1 is on the horizon

Holding out for SP1 before making the leap to Windows 7? Well, you’ll be pleased to know that Service Pack 1 for Microsoft’s latest OS is now on the horizon.

So, what’s likely to be in SP1? Top of the list will be all the patches and bug fixes that have been delivered to customers already. If you’re keeping up with patches than you already have these. On top of these patches and bug fixes will be tweaks and fixes based on feedback and telemetry received by Microsoft. Don’t expect anything ground-breaking here, it’ll mostly be under the hood tweaks.

SP1 will also bring with it support for new technologies. USB 3.0 is likely to be at the top of what is, admittedly, a short list.

I mean ... does a SP wcite you anyomore? We will already be having all the patches if you have been using WU. Or is it a mind game of sorts... that "business adopters should now start looking at W7 seriously now" !?

I'm actually surprised an SP is coming so soon after release, there has been just a few patches and bug fixes along with a handful of security fixes so far, surely that's not enough for an SP which is quite a big deal for most PC users. Any tweaks under the hood along with support for new technologies ie USB3 could be pushed out via windows update.

Hopefully, many more PC users have been educated over the last 18 months as to the importance of using windows update and keeping their machines up to date with patches and updates.

It's not been three months yet Windows 7 was launched. Microsoft is really working very fast on SP for Windows 7. Any expected release date ?

What was the need for sp1 I dont understand???Can we expect any new features?

I think win7 sp1 may be just like xp sp3 with all the previous updates,fixes etc plus usb 3.0 and enhancements to the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stacks.
Most of the firms wait till the release of the first service pack before migrating to a new OS and may be that's why MS is trying to release sp1 as soon as possible. As there's nothing much to be fixed in the current win7 we shouldnt expect any big changes with sp1.

Exactly. There are many blind MNCs who won't move to the new OS without SP.
