Default Windows 10 Technical Preview will be released tomorrow !

Contrary to what has generally been assumed the next version will be named Windows 10.

"Microsoft held its technical preview press event today in San Francisco where they showed off the first bits of the upcoming OS. As previously said, Microsoft will be releasing a technical preview for the public to try out ahead of the retail launch.

The technical preview will be available tomorrow and the downloads will come in at around 4GB for the 64-bit variety and around 3GB for the 32-bit version.

As with any preview software, especially an OS, you should not install this on production hardware as there will likely be bugs and it could break existing applications.

The download will be part of Microsoft's 'Insider' program for Windows enthusiasts; that portal will go live tomorrow as well.

This preview is considered a 'technical preview', for the consumer side of the OS, that conversation will take place in early 2015 and will likely include another preview release as well."

I think this bears repeating. Windows 8 had people installing the tech preview as it was the final version then were upset when it expired.

I'll be first in line tomorrow and getting it downloaded. I have a fresh SSD and a laptop ready to install it on!

Default Windows 10-TP has been released !

Windows 10-TP has been released !
    Im downloading right now....

But, be careful what you download and run !

    "Important

      • Remember, trying out an early build like this can be risky. That's why we recommend that you don't install the preview on your primary home or business PC. Unexpected PC crashes could damage or even delete your files, so you should back up everything.
      • After you install Windows Technical Preview, you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows.

    "

After registration, when you are on the download-page, the purple download-button links to a small exe-file (4.6 MB).

This seems to be an online-installer that will install W10-TP on your main partition = C-disk !
Which means replacing your existing O/S !!!

    Further down at the page:

    "Looking for ISO files?

If you're an advanced user and want to install the preview on another partition, another PC, or a virtual machine, we recommend you download the ISO files.

    Get the ISO files
    "

On that page you will find a "full" offline-installer, fx. the English 64-bit version is 4.1 GB

    I also downloaded W10-Enterprise Edition.
It was a very fast installation.
But when I selected it after a reboot nothing happened, my laptop hanged, so I had to remove the battery to get my laptop working.
Might be just a bad installation though, because I got an errormessage when I created the bootable USB-flashdrive with
"Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool", Im reinstalling tomorrow.
