Default Win 7 Professional - Lockup on copy/move - 11-03-2009, 10:28 PM

Have installed Win7 Prof on my desktop/laptop (2 seperate discs); did a clean installation on both machines. Laptop is fine. Desktop had a problem recognizing 2 - maxtor USB drives, PNP. Also, some times when attempting to copy or move folder, files, the system just locks up and everything disappears from the desktop, including the startup button. Have run the repair a number of times, but still having problems; do I need to reinstall Win7, either upgrade or clean or perhaps do I have another choice??? help appreciated...

I would definitely try a reinstall. Is the lockup on copy/move occur only with the USB drives?

No, it hangs up just copying or moving on the hard drive also; you never know when its going to occur...

Well, I would try a reinstall anyway...what are your system specs, such as RAM, CPU, etc?

Reinstall, upgrade version, seems to have done the trick. Starting up & shutting down w/o taking forever; both USB PNP drives recognized. Will try, over the next day or so, to see if system recognizes my cameras, which I expect it to.
Thanks much for the advise gang; appreciated the help...
