Default Windows 7 Explorer preview pane unable to display office extension files

After uninstalling MS Works and Office 2007 trial versions from a new computer, I installed the Office 2010 beta.

Now the Win 7 Explorer and Office preview panes do not work for doc or docx files or any other Office extentions, xls...etc. The preview pane in Explorer says "No preview available." In Office the Preview pane says "The file can't be previewed because of an error in the Microsoft Word (or Excel or..) previewer."

Zips, jpg, and txt files are fine in Explorer.

Is there a registry fix I can try to fix this?

    Thank you.

Did you install 2010 logged in on an administrator account? If not log in as an admin and rerun setup.

If you did run as an administrator use the Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> Default Programs option to set the file associations.

    Good luck.

Go to Word > Word Options > Resources. There you find " Microsoft Office diagnostics". Run those - maybe it can fix it.
