Drag and Drop not working in Windows 7 explorer
I was working normally in my Windows 7 Pro. OS and I shut down the system.
At the other day, after starting up windows 7, I realize that I can not anymore drag & drop files, folders or other items in windows desktop or between folders in windows explorer.
Any help will be appreciate,
Try this: Click on any file with the left mouse button and keep the button held down. Now press the Escape key. This has been known to renable the Windows drag-and-drop function.
There was a regfix available for this for XP at Aumha, but dont think it works on Windows 7.
Also see if this KB274696 article for Windows XP helps in your case.
Hope something helps!
Check whether this box is checked in Start menu > Properties > Customize.
Answers to questions:
1. Remains the default cursor.
3. Yes, I have UAC turned Off
4. Yes, i did a restore, but the problem is still there.
5. yes, I ran sfc /scannow, and nothing appeared to be wrong.
6. I tried using another admin account and the problem is gone.
I have this problem for more than a week, and is very annoying for me to work this way.
In the other hand, I have the option checked in Customize Start Menu.
I will do what you suggested about turning on UAC, and will let you know.
The problem still remains after turning on UAC. For me will be hard and difficult to switch to another account, but wll try to do it.
Thanks again, and if there is another suggestion of the possible cause, plese let us know.
May be you can try disabling "Drag-drop" in Context menu options and enable it back. I am not saying it will work, but worth trying....

Drag and drop stopped working in Windows 7
I was having the same issue and tried many of the suggestions, the one that worked was disabling the "Drag-drop" in Context menu options, applied it then enabled it again. SUCCESS!! Never fails, Roy: Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? Thanks!
