Default System File Checker won't run correctly in Windows 7

I have a Windows 7 64-bit system that has suffered OS damage and that I am desperately trying to avoid reinstalling the OS on. I'm confident that running SFC would prove to be helpful in resolving a number of issues but SFC will not run correctly. The problem is that when I run sfc /scannow it starts, immediately jumps to Verification 100% complete in a fraction of a second, and then indicates that no integrity violations were found. I have scoured the net looking for a solution and am coming up empty. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Default

Repair Windows 7 and then run System File Checker as admin and see if it helps.
