Initial reactions from the web:

VentureBeat: "It's really not very good."

Gizmodo: "Makes no sense."

ZDNet: "Was this ad supposed to be funny?"

Todd Bishop: "Didn't even produce a little chuckle."

ReadWriteWeb's Marshall Kirkpatrick: "An Arrogant Waste."

... and they are right. With a creative genius like Jerry Seinfeld such an ad is not expected.

Well, probably this new ad might disappoint you. The ad is bad, the message is not clear and overall it is not impressive. Probably the only thing that might appeal to you is Gate’s funny face.

Ad # 2.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gBWPf1BWtkw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gBWPf1BWtkw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Do you really think these ads will help the Windows brand?

I for one am quite disapointed with them. I found myself waiting to get the message.

The ads just need to stay focussed and get the message across in an straightforward manner.

My husband and I must be in the minority, for we like the ads. We liked the Seinfeld-Superman ads for American Express, though, so go figure.

These MS ads just can't be taken seriously. The second ad seems better at personifying the brand as Bill and Jerry stay at a family's home, smack in the middle of all-American dysfunction. I think the message they're wanting to make is, "we want to know our customers". The latest ad, parts 1 & 2, made us laugh aloud a few times as we watched them this morning. Gates is surprisingly real in them, comfortable and a good straight man to Jerry's wry observations.

Now, whether people will buy into that "regular guy" premise is a whole other story.
