OpenOffice.org has an office suite ALMOST identical to MS Office. It saves files in some sort of a generic file format, BUT you can also save files in MS Office file formats. In fact, you can open, edit, and save MS office files, AND you can set it to save your files in MS Office file formats by default. The best part of the whole deal is that it is FREE!!!!!!

I just got the best chain email I have ever seen.
"Send this to everyone in your address book and nothing will happen. I have sent it out three times and absolutely nothing happened."

In order to force me to give it an honest try I have uninstalled MS Office on my personal laptop and installed OpenOffice, and I have kept MS Office on my work laptop.
I do a lot of file sharing between the two so this should give it a good workout. I will post my results after trying this for a few weeks.
Regardless of the results I thought it was a great alternative for those that do not have access to a copy of MS Office when I was cleaning up my daughters friends laptops.

^ I would love to hear of your results, roraniel.
While OpenOffice may not be as good as MS Office, it is definitely a great alternative for those who are unable to pay for MS Office.
