    Default Desktop icons change

After last Microsoft update 18.11.12 alldesktop icon reverted to generics squares. I googled for advice and I see this prblem goes back to 2007 . I have tried every possible remedy suggested and none worked. Ok the icons work normally so there is no difficulty in the change . I am just curious if after all these years some bright spark figured how to force windows to go back. OS is Win 7 H.P. Michael

Try rebuilding your icon cache with this tool provided here.

For some reason mikemi cannot post here so he has requested me to post the reply on his behalf:

"Suggestion to rebuild icon cache does no good. I am grateful for your help. Cheers Michael"

Try this - basically the mentioned tool does the same thing:

Log in as admin. Open Windows Explorer, and configure your Folder Options > Views to show Hidden / System Files. Next go to C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local folder and delete the hidden IconCache.db file. Reboot.
