The 7 runs quite well actually on "millennium" hardware. I've tested it succesfully on AMD K6-2 500Mhz with ~700MB memory AMD K6-2 500Mhz with ~700MB memory (512+256 and off that 32MB to shared with graphics). I did try to drop cpu around 300MHz which was the lowest possible and took out the 512 memory chip... System was still somewhat usable.

One thing on the experiment was very interesting. While the system was on the full setup the cpu showed 100% usage When with the fewer cpu cycles and memory the cpu usage dropped to about 70%. Maybe the swapping took its toll

In case you were wondering, it is possible to have below 1.0 Windows Performance Indexes. This system has index of 0.7 on both configurations and I have seen multiple systems with index of 0.8.

Truly amazing. Keep us posted on your new experiments. My question is - could you get anything done on those configurations?

Hello friend,

I admit you can run a new generation OS on P II. But I dont believe you can do it with a 128 MB RAM. The installation wizard will clearly show the warning that the OS needs a min of 512 mb of ram and will not proceed further. Could you please share the trick with us?

Shyam.

Well.. the truth is that you can.. but i am not sure whether you can take screenshots .. i did all the things i can.. and installed on a PIII 333 mhz with 128 mb ram.. the only thing is that it took 17 hours to install and exactly 17 minutes for first boot.. well i had to go through a lot of things to achieve it..

But the person who shows us the screenshots.. i am amazed how you managed to get that resolution.. on a i might add a old GFx onboard ?

Hey guys. I have an EPoX 4G4A+ mainboard (Socket 478) with a 2.53GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and 2 GB PC2100 RAM. I have a 160GB IDE HDD and Lite On DVD combo.

All the parts are brand new, out of the box. Old, as in bought in the 90's, but never opened until last week.

I can't even get Windows XP to install on the damn thing, so how do I get Windows 7 to run? Help!

This requirement is true for installer, but the 7 will run on much less memory. I have only done the installation from existing XP and don't know if the memory requirement affects also plain bootable dvd installation.

At least the 32MB of ram is too little for he 7 to boot up. I did try.
