    hi !

Microsoft Security Essentials, beta for next version:

"Today we are announcing the beta for the next version of Microsoft Security Essentials. Beta for Next Version of Microsoft Security Essentials Now Available

    download: https://connect.microsoft.com/securityessentials

but, it really IS a BETA...

i have spent the last few hours trying to get it running,
i already had MSE so i first tried to install MSE-beta "over" the old version.
it didnt install correctly and gave an errormessage, so i uninstalled & rebooted.

i then re-installed MSE-beta, now it installed but there was no taskbar-icon,
when i start the GUI by running MSEs exe-file the taskbar-icon shows,
but when i hover over it with the mouse, then it disappears.
and the GUI also disappeared when i clicked on "Update" or tried to change some other settings.

    i have now un-installed, rebooted & re-installed MSE-beta several times,
but it still doesnt work normally.
i even turned off all other AVs & also other not needed programs like fx. Sandboxie.

so now you have all been warned....

you might get trouble with MSE-beta...

working fine here as well. I did uninstall stable MSE first, but I used Revo Uninstaller and removed all left over registry entries and files.

    hi !

i had (almost) the same problems with a previous "upgrade",
i had to uninstall & reinstall several times until eveything finally worked.

i suspect it could be some problem with "registry".....
im going to run ccleaner, (and maybe revo) and then try again.

but i also have another strong "suspect", i have had several other problems lately,
all of them started when i tried another "security-program".

anyway, im going to reinstall W7 to get a "clean" system, then i will install 1 program at a time until i find the problem,
if im right everything will work perfectly until i install the "suspect"....

    hackerman1, try this from MSAnswers:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt
    2. Run the following command:

    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\shellext.dll"

    hi !

    thanks Corrine !

    but, too late...
i have already reinstalled W7, just finished.
actually i had already planned to reinstall W7, i only needed a little push to do it, which MSE-beta gave me.

MSE-beta is working now, but it will be interesting to see if it continues when i reinstall all other programs including the "suspect" mentioned above....

My install was problem free...I've read that the Beta of SE was specifically to improve detection of malware... not too successfully in my case... my homepage is still hijacked by OKvids ... to be fair I have used 5 other products to remove it without success... last time my homepage was hijacked I remember finding simple directions to remove applets from the applet cache (XP 32 bit)... can't find those now using Bing or Google... otherwise ... The Malware Engine definitely needs to be nurtured. I also noticed that it does not support the Explorer right click context menu for a 'scan file' function.
