Firewall testresults from Matousec, October 2013
New testresults from Matousec:
New results have been published for:
ESET Smart Security 6.0.316.0
Jetico Personal Firewall 220.127.116.11.2471
VIPRE Internet Security 2014 18.104.22.168
Only minor updates have been released to ESET Smart Security and Jetico Personal Firewall.
No significant improvements have been implemented and this is why their overall performance in Proactive Security Challenge 64 remains on the same level (58 % for Jetico, 55 % for ESET this time).
Both these products provide similar level of protection, far ahead of most of the tested products in our challenge, but still far behind the best.
Jetico still suffers from its problems with "indirect relativeness" protection which does work sometimes but could cause major headaches to its users in case of malware infection of the protected computer.
Unlike ESET Smart Security, it does not seem that Jetico Personal Firewall is under a very active development.
This is evident from its release notes.
VIPRE Internet Security also keeps its level of protection, but unlike the other two products, its proactive protection is really one of the worst in our challenge. 2 % again for VIPRE Internet Security.

No change at the top of the list.
Comodo is still #1.......
And if your looking at the list and are thinking about selecting a good firewall,
then you should note what i posted 2013-03-22:
"And the latest version of Private Firewall, doesn´t pass Gibsons or PcFlanks "Stealthtest" !?
That is not the version tested on 3rd placebelow, as that test was made long before the latest version was released.
Firewall Security test results from Matousec - March 2013
Also note my testresults for Private Firewall:
"It also fails Comodo´s Leak Test, which has been noted by several people over at wilders.
It only got 270/330 when i tested it."

I see that you follow firewall tests regularly.
Over a period of time, have you seen any firewall performing good, consistently? If so which freeware or paid one would you recommend?

Comodo has been #1 for a long time.
And it´s FREE...
So why not use it ?
Note: Comodo v5 has 2% better results than v6 (and a better GUI).
But you need to remember that not all combinations of firewalls and antimalwareprograms is possible.
Fx. "Kaspersky Antivirus" only works with their own firewall.
But even if you are using another firewall, you can add Comodo´s Defence+ (HIPS), just turn off Comodo´s firewall.
I´m running WS2008-R2 and since Comodo has no official support for WS2008-R2 i´m using Windows Firewall,
and Comodo´s Defence+ (HIPS), with Comodo´s firewall turned off, together with Emsisoft AntiMalware (EAM).
I have also tested another combination with MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM), with realtime-protection on,
together with those 3, and i have not noticed any problems, no differense in speed or otherwise.
I tested with MBAM on one day, off another day etc.
Both EAM & MBAM is designed to work together with other antimalwareprograms so they work well together.
MBAM has got good results in tests of antimalwareprograms lately so i´m planning to add MBAM.
Since MBAM has a lifetime-license for only 24.95 USD (!) it´s a good (and cheap) investment....
