IE11 will remain unpatched if you dont have Windows 8.1 Update installed
Most you may have already received and installed the recent Windows Updates.
As a Windows 8.1 user, you may want to know something!
If you have NOT installed the Windows 8.1 Update or KB2919355, you will not have been offered this very important security update KB2957689 for Internet Explorer 11.
This security update resolves two publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and fifty-eight privately reported vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Internet Explorer.
For Internet Explorer 11, are there any prerequisites for the 2957689 update?
Yes. Customers running Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows RT 8.1, must first install the 2919355 update released in April, 2014 before installing the 2957689 update.
Just posted this - so that you do not remain under any false impression that you are running a fully patched computer - you wont be - for your IE 11 will have this vulnerability, if you have NOT installed Windows 8.1 Update yet. If you have installed Windows 8.1 Update, then you should be safe and secure!
