Default EMET 5.2 may crash Internet Explorer - Workaround

If you updated to EMET v 5.2, some of you may receive error Internet Explorer has stopped working error, when trying to open any website.

I was receiving this error and so wrote to Microsoft about this. I did receive a quick response!

Microsoft is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it. As a temporary workaround, they have suggested the following:

    Disable Certificate Trust (Pinning)

Hope this helps those who may be facing this problem.

I have removed EMETs from my desktop & the 2 laptops. I tired of the errors and software operation blocks by EMETs [all versions]. I have numerous other alligators in my castle moat ready to bite the hinies off of any discoverd spy/mal-ware or viri attempting to enter the castle.

EMET needs to be configured correctly, just as any other securityprogram.
Fx. EMET 4.1 kills Office 2010 (OneNote, Outlook, Word, Excel & Powerpoint 2010) if you let it use the default configuration after running the "wizard".....
Configure it right and there is no problem with Office 2010.

I restored my computer and have 5.1 on it now. I have never faced any problems using it, with the default settings. Will wait for the fixed version now.

I have fixed-version cats at home, and the male still sprays from time to time.
EMET sprayed once too often. I have yet to see any detailed instructions on how to correctly configure EMET to work with nonMicrosoft products.

Have you read the manual ?
When EMET blocks a program it tells you what is has blocked...

    Something like this:
    "EMET4.1
EMET detected SimExecFlow mitgation and will
    close the application: Winword.exe
    "

Then you tell EMET not to watch that mitigation for Winword.exe....
In EMET 4.1 the settings are under "Apps" in the top menu,
I have not upgraded yet so I donīt know if it has been changed in EMET 5+.

hackerman1, you're right as rain, I've not fully seen the manual. However, 'cause I have plenty of alligators in my castle moat, I won't miss EMET for now.

Smile EMET 5.5 SimExecFlow error w. Microsoft Word - you are right! 3-23-2017

I just had the same thing happen after I just upgraded my Malwarebytes app. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I run Windows 10. Lost my ability to do anything in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and any of my 365 Office apps. Followed the info below about going into EMET GUI, apps, and unchecked every box in any column associated with Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc. That did the trick. Everything loaded and worked as it should. I don't know if the malwarebytes upgrade did the problem or using Mozilla which also upgraded today but I don't care. My word and powerpoint and such are back now. So do just what this gentleman said.
    Thanks. Happy Professor

Are they phasing out EMET now?
