You are partially right but the virus can also spread through a flash drive used on an infected system.
Correct me if I am wrong.

An email attachment is the most common vector being used. But it could be if you visit a malicious web page too.

Email attachment is the most common way to get the Ransomware infection or any other virus infection. But this is not the unique way through which you can get infected with the Ransomware or malware.

It also spreads in other ways such as Phishing attacks with malicious attachments, user browsing behavior, visiting malicious or adult websites, if your windows OS is outdated or not updated with the latest updates, also as @erbhargava says using flash drive, pen drives used on infected system, also downloading videos, games, software from the free websites.

Apart from that, the cyber criminals are becoming stronger day by day and using different tricks to get into the users system so be careful while browsing or downloading anything. And keep the valid backup of the important files and folder as well as scan your system regularly with the good and healthy antivirus program.
