Run Windows 7 (or any OS) in a virtual partition

Some people reported connectivity problems. But I am not sure whether this is a Virtual Box problem. I have seen people report connectivity problems with W7 installed directly on the system. You may have to scout for a driver.

just taught myself how to use virtualbox, but i am now looking for a usable version of Windows 7. *** does not have it available for download. Where can I find one? Maybe a .vdi ?

I understand that you can still get it if you are a TechNet member. That is easy to sign up for. But you should really be looking for the ISO.
