You don't download from a disk. You copy from a disk. What antivirus
are you using? Some AVs intercept downloads to a quarantine directory,
then copy the files to the destination directory after a clean scan. If the
lights on your modem are blinking during download, the file is being
downloaded onto your PC. It's just a matter of, "where?" Have you
done a file search for a downloaded file for which you know the filename?

Just thought of something else. When you download, does the IE
download window show the download progress, speed, etc., then
indicate when done? If so, it is downloading properly, but to an
unknown location on your drive.

As a rule, I do not have problems with either here. I use
logical drives setup on the physical drive, but you do not
need to do that. Set FF to download to a separate folder you
create. Download all files to that folder.

I am not a geek in any way or form. but I do know that I have spent hours
trying to download. I have vista. The download gets about 50% and then quits.
I click on the security bar at the top to allow the download and disable
popups. Please tell me an EASY way to solve this. Thanks

Install Firefox 3.0 and see how downloads go with that.
Just this morning I decided to do a total reset of IE settings to see
if it would fix a problem I've been having with a particular website.
Didn't fix the problem, but it DID kill my ability to download
anything: the download window would close and the file was nowhere to
be found. NOWHERE. Firefox worked fine.
I played for HOURS - and searched the web intensively for a solution -
until I finally decided to do a system restore to get downloading back
in IE. I really would have preferred to find the fix, but gave up.
Many have found that their A/V program is the culprit. It wasn't on
mine. Nor was it Defender or anything else I could think of.
Again, try Firefox. That's the only consistent "fix" I've found that
covers all situations in my own case.

Sometimes when I have download problems I either
1. Change to a differnet browser such as Firefox
or 2. Use a free program Download Accelerater Plus which also neatly stores
all my downloads and speeds them up. Which also has a resume function so I
don't have to do the whole download again if something goes wrong.
