Default Unable to access Services and Performance Monitor

I am getting the message " Adobe Reader could not open eg`perfmon.msc` because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged "

Can anybody suggest a solution to this problem.

I suggest you to uninstall Adobe Reader, using Revo Uninstaller.

I think your files associations may have got messed up. perfmon is an .exe file and adobe tries to open it. Is it happening only with perfmon?

Nevertheless, I suggest you uninstall Adobe, for the moment atleast and reboot.

Create a system restore point first.

Then run this reg fix for exe files from File association fixes for Windows and run it. Click here to download the exe reg fix.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for your responses. In Control Panel>Admin Tools I am unable to open Computer Management,Event Viewer,Task Scheduler.Reliability @ Perf Monitor or Windows Firewall in IE8.
I have uninstalled Adobe but am unable to open these files in the alternatives eg Media Player and IE. The exe reg fix causes Windows to have a fit producing multiple windows .

Site Speed, Google’s Next Ranking Factor

Google is seriously considering using page loading time as a factor when returning search results.

So if you find that your pages loads slowly, you might want to speed things up a bit.

Pingdom Tools will help analyze your page load times. take the test!

    Runnercon,

How about going over the steps I did to make my RM working again. See the other post from WaWa. By doing this you might encounter some anomalies in the eventvwr.msc or control schedtasks
Both accessable your way or Winows key + R. Type the exact words in the window + OK.
    You never know.

The following will make a .reg file to remove all context menu entries relevant to Adobe Reader.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved]
    "{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}"=-

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved]
    "{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}"=-

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Cached]
    "{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802} {000214E4-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} 0xFFFF"=-
I mention this because Adobe Bridge likes to do the same effect you have experienced..... Until you remove all its context menu entries from the registry.

Worth a try as Adobe likes to leave remnants of its passing through (Back up your registry first though, although I can't see a problem).

This saved as a .bat file will automate clearing your Event Viewer
    Code:
    @echo off
    FOR /F "tokens=1,2*" %%V IN ('bcdedit') DO SET adminTest=%%V
    IF (%adminTest%)==(Access) goto noAdmin
    for /F "tokens=*" %%G in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO (call :do_clear "%%G")
    echo.
    echo goto theEnd
    :do_clear
    echo clearing %1
    wevtutil.exe cl %1
    goto :eof
    :noAdmin
    exit
Finally, a link to the post WaWa wrote.
