Keep all the files in the same folder as the Application file.

The empty.ico file is the file used to rid you of the dreaded arrow.

If you want a desktop shortcut, create a shortcut of the Application file and move it to the desktop, don't move the Application file to the desktop.

Have tried to do this in Windows 7 (32 bit) but the option for removing the arrow is not responding and appears to be greyed out.

I cannot follow the reasoning in roraniel's post.

Can you please spell it out step by step?

    Try this:
Open Notepad and paste the following code into it

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons]
    "29"="empty.ico,0"
"""Make sure to remove space in CurrentVersion, for some reason formatting is placing the space"""

Save it as noshortcutarrow.reg , set file type to All File Types. Double-Click the noshortcutarrow.reg file it will then pop up asking if you want to merge data with Registry, click ok, refresh Explorer or Log Off and back on to view changes.

You should now not see the shortcut arrows

When you unzip the program it unzips four files.

    1. Change Log
    2. empty
    3. Read Me
    4. Ultimate Windows Tweaker.

In the past people have had the issue of the remove the arrow option being grayed out when they copy the program file (4. Ultimate Windows Tweaker) to a different folder than the file named empty. The empty file is the file needed to remove the arrows.

I just noticed that. In edit mode it displays correctly, for some reason when it's formatting it's placing the space. Very odd, thanks for pointing that out
