Default Slow network speeds while copying large files to networked hard drives

when i copy large files to my networked HDD, my speeds is only 1.5 MB/s!!

i know this a vista issue, as i have SCOURED the internet and read many posts, but mostly dated 2007, 2008 so i am assuming there is a fix, but i cant find it!

    any ideas?

Funny, that is exactly what is happening, and the fix is load SP2 (which i did, about 2 years ago when it came out!). The date on that article is May 2008!

Here's another clue: i can download files to this drive, from the internet (using an FTP site), at full speed, but the slow speed ONLY occurs when i try and copy from my native OS drive. Explain THAT one!

i asked for the 'hot fix', so we'll see what happens, stay tuned...

Yes. I have 2 laptops, an older Toshiba Tablet with Windows 7 Professional and a new Toshiba Satellite running Windows 7 Premium. I have had instances where 2 of the thumbdrives I use do this. Have had random slow transfer rates and also have had them at random tell me to plug my device into a usb 2.0 drive for faster transfers.... At first I had thought it was my thumbdrive till I bought a new one (different brand) did the same thing, next thought it was my usb ports till i tested on different laptop, I'm now convinced it's a Windows bug

I know you say you are running Vista, but alas your not alone even in Windows 7 this is present and I have yet to find a fix that worked

i just learned this is occurring in W7 too. yikes.

what do you think of the fact i can d/l files from the internet, straight to this HDD with full speed, but the copy and paste command is the slow method?

im hoping that is a major clue for a tech savvy person here!!

    Tera copy didnt help.

Try this. Open the Control panel (classic view). Selct Programs and Features.
On the left select Turn windows features on and off.
Scroll down and untick Remote differential Compression.
This feature is for internet work but Vista seems to see local operations through the same eyeball. It worked for me.
    Tip gotten from here
