If your asking how to retrieve the key on an allready installed copy of xp go here. I was going to type out what to do but this works

If you don't have it installed and you can prove you purchased your copy you can call Microsoft and request a new key. This also works if you have reinstalled windows several times and key no longer works (I've gone through this dozens of times)

If you don't know how to reach Microsofts toll free number here is a link to get the number for your region

    For an installed copy.

Download the free utility SIW - System Information for Windows,

From the menu click on Licenses, all installed keys will be revealed.

SIW is a standalone utility that does not require installation (Portable Freeware) - one less installed program on your PC as well as the fact that you can run the program directly from an USB flash drive, from a floppy, from a network drive or from a domain login script.

There are many ways to recover your lost product key. There are softwares online that you can download to retrieve this on your system. Else, call Microsoft on their business 800 numbers or visiting their website for customer support.

Other option is this: ProduKey - Recover lost product key (CD-Key) of Windows/MS-Office/SQL Server

The cool thing about this is that it allows you to load a registry hive from offline. check it out
