how do you get them back and more importantly how do you fix the default theme when its corrupted ?

I dont use wlm but I downloaded it just to see if I could help.
Got this from googling and found this page and it works
Official Windows Magazine | Is it possible to recover a deleted Scene from Windows Live Messenger 2009?!?

Just delete all the scenes/themes, 1 will remain you cant delete
Sign out of messenger and close it out
Open it back up and sign in and it should rebuild them all

Hope this works for you. Worked on mine and I honestly have no idea about wlm

the page says delete the scenes folder but there is no folder in the c:/prog files/windows live/messenger folder.

just a file called scenes.mct, i deleted it but it didn't work to restore anything.

we need a fix for this for wlm.

---------- Post added at 05:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:47 PM ----------

ok so this is how you do it :

    1) rename C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\scenes.mct to scenes.rar
    2) extract all files to a subfolder
    3) open wlm, click the scene paintbrush, browse to the folder and add back the missing theme file.

there is no default theme file so i'm screwed but atleast now i have the red theme back.

so i'm still looking for the default theme fix, check my other thread if you can help plz.

I didn't delete any folders. All I did was load WLM, go to the scenes window, when it loaded I deleted each scene by clicking the x. I was able to delete them all except the first scene
After that I closed the scene window, signed out of WLM and closed it
Open WLM back up and sign back in
Open the scene window and they should be installed back.

ok thanks. i didn't try that, as who knows if it will work over here. lol you never know now with this messed up wlm2009 , lol

anyway, thanks. basically my original problem remains, default msn theme is screwed up and the upper part of all chat windows isn't showing the same colors as the chosen scene.

    like this:

you can see the ugly white band and blue line. i'd rather have that part match the theme.

    Hi, h0rnytoad1.

I am sorry, but we have not come up with a solution to your problem. I suggest you try at Windows Live Messenger Support since that is their specialty.

    Best of luck.

    ty i will try them.

just fyi: no amount of uninstall/reinstall will fix this. even zapmessenger and other scripts are no good for this.

    looks like its a bug:

    1) close wlm

    2) delete everything in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messen ger

    3) launch wlm

its temporarilly fixed, until you close wlm (or reboot, etc).

i finally found a way to fix it!

you'll need msgplus and a script called "Your Skin Control 1.0.1" by Hanan.

just so you are clear on the issue, you can see the problem here: brokenmsndefaulttheme on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

this is the default scene for wlm. not the orange of course, the white wavy blue line is the corruption.

How to fix: Messenger Plus! Live - Script - Your Skin Control

basically i think the script pushes the local skin (which is perfectly fine, not corrupted) on the server. effectivelly fixing the problem.

i've tested this by logging out and restarting msn many times, and the background stays fixed.

you can remove the script and msgplus if you want after it fixed.

    voila, problem solved!

but i gotta say, one small complaint: the ms way of doing things by email and skydrive for logs is so complicated, doesnt work and the server always rejects emails, ugh, trust me save yourselves days of waiting and jumping through hoops and try the fix here. it took 2 whole seconds to fix it.
