    Default Firefox 4.0 design updates

In an interesting look at the the new Firefox 4 design chromaticpixel gets into some of the changes and the reasons for them. There are also several mock-up pictures of what the new changes will probably look like.

One thing that I haven't seen much media coverage on is that in 3.7 Mozilla is moving plug-ins to their own process. That's a pretty cool change both from a speed improvement and stability perspective. Aero Peek is finally coming in 3.7. I've been running the nightly builds of 3.7.a1pre for a month or so and its pretty smooth so far.

For all of the latest information on Firefox 3.7 and 4.0 UI development you can take a look at their wiki (Firefox/Projects/3.7 and 4.0 Theme and UI Revamp/Direction and Feedback).

    From the Firefox Roadmap:
    Firefox 3.7 / Fennec 1.1
    mozilla-1.9.3 branch
    Q1/Q2 2010
Run plugins in a separate process to improve overall application stability and responsiveness. Improve startup time

    platform enhancements
    • out of process plugins
    • phase two of compositor
    • support for animation in XUL

    end user feature enhancements
    • bookmark synchronization
    • run websites as an application
    • task oriented browsing

    speed and responsiveness improvements
    • tracemonkey engine improvements
    • pageload optimizations

Actually the link to chromaticpixel is the one with the latest updates, dated 12/21/09. There are 2 links in the post. The chromaticpixel (mozilla blog) has one of the same images that your site does

If this is Firefox 4.0, it's really looking good. Something pleasing to the eye. Hoever, I hope 4.0 is more than just eyecandy. Some performance upgrades are also due. Like eliminating the need of restarting it after addon installations, fixing unexpected memory leaks, etc.

Nice GUI revamp ideas, along with other enhancements it is reasonable to hope in a great FF release!

The new UI is looking nice and attractive....they might also includes the new Windows7 API features......like jumplist...

I think, Ribbon UI is also expected in IE9....
