Default Microsoft prepares Windows 7 for external SP1 testing

Similar to previous external beta service pack rollouts, Microsoft has enabled – via updates you already installed – a beta ‘candidacy check’ within its Windows Update software. Just like Windows Vista, a registry key and value pair need to be added prior to being authorized to download the new software.

    I am waiting. Personally, I don't need a SP1 though.

No. Not really. One year later, that's how it has been.

When Rafael Rivera broke this news it was pointed out that it might still be another 3-4 months before we see SP1 (it was for Vista SP1 when they made the same update prior to the sp1 release).

Since the OS release date was October 22nd 2009, even if it is 4 months from now that's a VERY short cycle release. MS knows that historically business (where they really make their money) usually waits for a service pack release, of course they are doing it fast.

Vista launch - November; Service Pack 1 - Feb following year.

Windows XP - October; Service Pack - September following year

So I don't see how they're working any faster.

Agreed. i just re-checked my response I initially meant within the first year. Anyway, all cool. Though I'm not sure what they're gonna implement with SP1, new features, perhaps, since there is nothing major to fix with the RTM code.
