Using one of these Context Menu Editors to add items may make things easier.

To create a text file, right-click on your desktop screen and in the menu that appears, click New and then click Text Document. Creating a text file this way opens your default text editor with a blank text file on your desktop. You can change the name of the file to anything you want.
Or you can select NEW WORD DOCUMENT that appears when you right click on any empty space on desktop or File Explorer and when saving it, select .txt in the Save dialog box.

Using a free tool is better than editing the Registry.
