    Default Configuration Store inconsistent?

    Running Windows 7 64-bit with updates.

    Have gotten an error 80073712 trying to install C++ 2005 (x64) redistribution that MatLab needs. Get the same behavior (error) if I try and install the C++ package alone. Error message is
    "Produces the following error:
    Product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) -- Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.5072 7.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processor Architecture="amd64"'.
    Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80073712. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {837BF1EB-D770-94EB-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E} (NULL)"

    80073712 in the above message suggests by support.microsoft.com is that "The component store is in an inconsistent state." I assume that is the info in winsxs?

    And if i look at the CBS.log as suggested, I see numerous messages that
    "2010-01-03 06:28:38, Info CBS Failed to get CSI store. [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT]
    2010-01-03 06:28:38, Error CBS Failed to initialize store parameters with boot drive: and windows directory: [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT]
    2010-01-03 06:28:38, Error CSI 00000087@2010/1/3:13:28:38.200 (F) d:\w7rtm\base\wcp\componentstore\storelayout.cpp(6 636): Error STATUS_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT originated in function ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::OpenCanonicalData Key expression: (null)
    [gle=0x80004005]"

    So my question is how can I make the configuration store consistent? Have been completely unsuccessful in searching!

    Run CMD as Administrator and execute the following.

    SFC /SCANNOW

    Restart your PC, if it is required.

    Yes, have tried that and it refuses to perform the activity. Spent ~4 hrs with Microsoft this morning and it is a difficult problem to solve ---- still working on it.
