If you prefer to use a different antivirus solution, you might want to keep an eye on the Windows 8 Compatibility for Security: Antivirus: Drivers, Updates, Downloads pages.

For example, although not listed as compatible, if you look at Avast Free, version 5, 3 out of 3 people clicked that the free version is compatible. Similarly, Version 5 of ESET Nod32 has 7/7 as compatible and ESET Smart Security 18/19 as compatible.

I installed Emsisoft Antimalware (EAM) yesterday, it also seems to be working.
Im also using Security Center 2012 Endpoint Protection (SCEP), the next version of Forefront.
I did a few tests with some EICAR-testfiles and both immediately reacted.
And i also noticed yesterday that both Kaspersky and F-Secure now have released their betaversions...

I installed Avast 7.0.1407 since 2/28/2012 and runs without any problems on both systems x86 and x64 of the consumer preview.
Definition update each time during the operation and approximately every 2 hours.
    The version is now 7.0.1426.

Windows Defender is Security Essentials in Windows 8 CP... Do we really need a free/beta AV program to protect Windows 8 CP?

But one thing is VERY annoying, there is NO taskbar-icon for Defender, which can give you the impression that it have stopped working....

And there is also NO settings for when you want to run a scheduled scan.

Personally im switching back to SCEP ("Business version of MSE").

There are several other A/V-programs that works on W8-CP.

Perhaps you should read previous posts in this thread ?
In the 3rd post i wrote: "...you can download SCEP 2012 from Microsoft !
    SCEP 2012: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/serve...tion-2012.aspx

Its free for everyone to download, just login and get it, its a 180-day trial so you can use it until other antivirus-programs is available...."

Check the system requirements, Kaspersky Pure 2 is not (officially) compatible with Windows 8.

The only supported version is: "The Kaspersky Internet Security Technical Preview is designed to work specifically with the Windows 8 beta program, known as the Windows 8 Consumer Preview."
