Default Enable disable DVD CD ROM Drives

Two ways to disable the DVD CD ROM Drives:

1] Open Device Manager and expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives node. Double-click on the DVD or CD drive to open its Properties. Click on Driver tab and click on Disable.

2] Create a system restore point first.

Now open an elevated command prompt window, type the following and hit Enter.

    reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdrom /t REG_DWORD /v "Start" /d 4 /f

You will get The operation completed successfully message. This will disable the DVD CD Drive.

    To enable it, use:

    reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\cdrom /t REG_DWORD /v "Start" /d 1 /f

    Restart your Windows PC.

If this does not work, you may restore your computer back to the created point.

See this post if CD or DVD drive not working or not reading.

    Wyoming or out in space...

You can also probably disable in the BIOS.
