Default GIF files do not have animation

My IT knowledge is really poor and I have a laptop which isn’t connected to the internet. All .GIF files transferred to this machine open as a simple graphic file only (without any animation); however when these .GIF’s are opened on my other machine (which is connected to the internet)’ the files do have animation.

What I’d like to know how/what enables .GIF’s to display their animation content?
Is it simply by installing ‘a particular Adobe package’, or is internet connection a necessity or is it something else altogether?

Right-lick the GIF file > Open with > Internet Explorer. Does this work? If so set it to always open GIFs with IE.

Else use File Association Fixer v2 for Windows 10 / 8 released to fix GIF file association fix and see if that helps.
