If i download and update my vista with service pack 2, will all my files and other stuff be intact?

Yes.
Nevertheless, its always a good practice to back them up to another drive or medium if you can.

err i dont have any other option..cant afford getting an external hard drive ..maybe the small flash drives i suppose

Dont worry, just back them up to another drive on your comp, and go ahead.
The suggestion was only in the interest of abundant caution.

Any SP update won't affect files on the system. Though I should say please avoid using Beta products unless you plan to help Microsoft find and iron out bugs.

oh you know it. i try avoid using any software /program if its still in beta production..so ill wait till sp2 gets beta bugs out of system
