Microsoft has just launched the “Get Game Smart” campaign to encourage parents to understand the media (specifically video games) that their kids are so enamored with. Here, you’ll find everything you need to help your children make smart choices about what they play, watch and browse.
Get Game Smart offers families a number of resources to help facilitate discussion of media appropriateness including “up-to-date reports on video gaming, information about new technology and digital media tips and suggestions from other families, campaign partners and a variety of experts.”
Additionally, the site also offers a number of contests and prizes for parents and teens who can complete simple tasks proving their commitment to extolling the virtues of appropriate media.
Do also check out the Get Game Smart Family Challenge. It offers incentives for parents and kids to work together on fun activities that will improve their knowledge about gaming and online safety, and help them create household agreements for media use ...along with easy ways to enforce them!
Microsoft is also searching for parent and teen teams to serve as Get Game Smart Ambassadors. These teams will be selected through a nationwide video contest in which parent/teen teams submit videos on how their families approach balanced media use and safety in their homes. For full contest details, and to submit a video please click here.
