Unhappy changed hard drive letter by accedent

Hi everyone I hope you can help.

I was re-arranging the drive letters to accommodate a new hard drive when I renamed the c drive by accident to d. Big mistake I know and to top it all our power went before I noticed the error and now my pc wont start.

I have tried repairing the problem with the installation disc but with no luck and to add salt to the wound I have an back up image on an internal drive but I didn't get round to making a boot disc.

If anyone has any idea how I can get around this without doing a clean install I would be really happy JR

    Hi JR
have you tried booting in safe mode with command prompt? Have you tried booting from bios options, ie removeable, dvd, hard drive. I do not think that if you do the last thing that it will make any difference to the letter. If your dvd drive was the d drive then I think you may have to do a clean install, unless you have killdisk which you may be able to repair things from. that's all I can think of

    Hi johnny.rotton,
    You uninstalled Linux, didn't you?
Do you have your Vista installation DVD? If so, please take a look at the pictures here

Risolvere gli errori di GRUB dopo la rimozione di Linux [MegaLab.it]

This reviews is in Italian, just look at the pictures, they explain how to solve your problem
ripristina il computer means "restore my computer"
avvio means both start both boot
when finished reboot normally, the problem should be solved.

I'm sorry, I'm so tired now, I'm not able to translate correctly at present, I hope images would explain better than me

I have seen what I have done now I renamed the Linex and XP partitions and confussed my PC sorry guys.

I was really panicking as I thought I had lost the lot, its my fault for having 3 Operating Systems on 1 PC.

All working now. Thanks for your input. JR

JR, that's why I prefer to run my "other" systems in a virtual partition. Then you can have as many as you want without making a mess of your system ( http://www.winvistaclub.com/forum/wi...partition.html ). Especially with your equipment that should be no problem at all. And the setup is very fast. I had Windows 7 up and running in 30 minutes. Same with Ubuntu.
