Question Gmail becomes Google Mail ... changes its logo?

I opened my Gmail page to check if I've got any new mail and guess what I found in the top-left corner of the screen!

The language is Russian, btw, but never mind that. The logo reads "Google Mail" instead of Gmail. How interesting. I know that "@gmail" domain is not available in Germany and, if I am not mistaken, also in Great Britain. That is why German and Briton Gmail users have their addresses ending with "@googlemail.com" and that is how the email service offered by Google is called in those countries. But why here in Russia?

I wouldn't be surprised if the logo changed everywhere else, U.S. mailboxes included.

I have never known it as being anything other than Googlemail since I started using it 3 years ago. Perhaps it was called Gmail in other places. Funny it is still in beta after all this time

Hmm... It's even more interesting now since the logo changed back to the original "Gmail" today (the next day after that weird occasion). Is it, like, one of those "doodles" Google is famous of then? As far as I'm concerned, the doodles have never spread anywhere else except for the main search page.

Hey, I have found a possible explanation here. Someone suggested that Google servers misinterpreted the IP address and thought that it originated from Germany or UK.
Though I'm still wondering if it could be a traditional Google trick, doodle-kind. The purpose of it is still to be understood...
