Unhappy Display appears distorted at every start up.

I am now facing this problem on my hp laptop since the last 15 days or so. No idea how or when it happened.

Every time I start my laptop, my vista laptop screen image appears distorted. Rt clicking on the desktop makes the display clean again.

    Any ideas ?

Check your hardware connections, I've faced distorted display but the distortions were different, solution was re-inserting the RAM & GFX card.

He has a laptop, so no reinserting GFX card. I doubt the RAM would have shifted.

What i would suggest are a BIOS and GFX driver update. Also, i would suggest checking the battery and the heating issues. I have come across 3 HP laptops in the past 6 months with too much of heating up issues! Even while charging, the charer gets hot like a coal on fire!

If you supect a heat problem, download and run Core Temp ( Core Temp ). You can minimize it into the system tray. Everything below 60C is OK.

My Core Temps are around 36 deg C.

Do you think I should get the RAM checked from a hardware tech guy ? Maybe that could be the reason because I had got the RAM upgraded/changed from HP over a month back.

As a first test of your RAM, you should run MemTest ( Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic ). Then you can also check whether the Dimms are seated right.

First of all, try this out to verify whether or not this is a hardware issue or just a windows issue.

I presume you must be having some or the other live linux cd with you, common andy, any techie should be having a live linux cd!! Boot using the live cd and check whether the display issue subsists. If it does not, then you are facing an error in windows. Probably a corrupt driver or something. Reinstall the driver and see if it solves the problem.
