    Default Microsoft Security Essentials question.

I have a question. I have installed the new offering from Microsoft - MSE. Now where can I access Windows Defender from ? I cant see it. Also do you think I can uninstall Spybot now?

That's what I'm asking. Is MSE good enough for me to uninstall Spybot. I use only MSE and the Windows firewall!

    MSE disables Windows Defender.
If you want more protection do not unistall SpyBot Search & Destroy, at least disable TeaTimer module and SpyBot won't interfere with MSE at all:-)

And do not forget, please, that MSE is still in beta stage, that means it may have bugs and could report false positive detections

True, while reports of MSE are positive overall, its still in beta stage. Spybot is a non-resident software, so even if you keep it, no issues. Yes, make sure Tea Timer is dsiabled, however.

To access the disabled Defender type Windows Defender in start menu and hit Enter. You will get a dialog box saying: This program is turned off...etc. Click here to turn it on.

Windows Defender uses the same anti-malware definitions as MSE. Therefore, having Windows Defender along with MSE is redundant.

However, MSE is not merely an anti-malware application. It is also an anti-virus software program. Therefore, do NOT run a second anti-virus software along with MSE.
