I use Kaspersky IS09 which is free for the current Win7. The best firewall is, of course, your router - if any.

Even I feel that W7 default fw is good; if you want, you can always turn on outbound & inbound connection filtering in it to have more control. This read might interest you.

+3 on WF. My router does most of he filtering for me, and MBAM has a new IP protection module for registered users. Running another security program that is TSR would only hamper my system.

In tests Windows firewalls Vista and 7 have held up very well. You can test a firewall at grc.com amongst other places. Personally I use KIS and that does me fine. There is a new version of ZoneAlarm which is a very good free firewall.

Add me to the list supporting the Windows Firewall. I'm also in agreement with John Galt regarding a properly configured router and MBAM IP protection module.

Considering that ZoneAlarm Pro did not score well at the last Matusec tests, and ZA Free came in considerably lower on the list (and also includes a pre-checked option to install ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker which is the Ask Toolbar), I dropped ZA from the list I recommend some time ago.
