Default What is the best online virus scan to use?

im wondering. if i feel my computer has been compromised what would the best online scan be?

also i always got the feeling when that happens that a virus would simply disable or make it appear that my scan is good come up clean but something still be there.

what would be the best online scanner to use from time to time

    thanks
    winter

Kaspersky OR NOD32. Both are equally good.

    Try NOD32 or Kaspersky:
    Free ESET Online Antivirus Scanner
Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab

But if you are looking to scanning a single file, then these, which use multiple scan engines are the one's to use:
    Jotti's malware scan
VirusTotal - Free Online Virus and Malware Scan

    Hi, winterlord.

If you feel your computer may have been compromised, I would advise you to start with a full system scan of your onboard antivirus software. Be sure to update it prior to scanning.

Following that, a scan with an anti-malware software such as Malwarebytes' Anti-malware would be in order. (Direct download link: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware).

As to an on-line scan, I agree with the suggestion of ESET or Kaspersky.

also i always got the feeling when that happens that a virus would simply disable or make it appear that my scan is good come up clean but something still be there.
Yes, your antivirus software can be disabled by malware. In fact, file associations are a recent target, resulting, for example, in the inability to run an .exe. As to making it appear that the scan is clean but something still resident, rather it would be that the virus/trojan is not in detection yet or there is a rootkit infection.

ok guys thanks for the info. will definatly be usefull. and i realy like the idea of being able to scan a file with multiple scaners that is pretty kool. but yes what i am going to do is scan everything ect. i disabled system restor ran sophos rootkit cleaner. and such in safe mode scanning all drives. and after i scan everything im gonna unplug all the extra hard drives format disk then re-instal win7 ect. get virus and firewall stuff and up to date then power down and plug in my extra storage drives and scan again with a clean system.

now i do have another question when i redo my pc i should re-do it install what i need update ect. then make another user account and make it a limited user and use that as my primary system login? as limited user

or does windows 7 have somthin where you dont need to do all that anymore.

or does me being a limited user make it easyer for virus ect to gain admin user?
