Thumbs up Microsoft Security Essentials is the BEST free antivirus for Windows

Thousands of downloads. Countless positive reviews on software blogs around the Internet. It's been quite a ride so far for Microsoft Security Essentials.

In AV Comparative's most recent report on malware removal, MSE was the only free antivirus rated Advanced+. That ranking placed it alongside big names like Norton, Kaspersky, and F-Secure. Security Essentials also beat out technician favorite ESET, which managed only an Advanced rating.

I was in the perpetual beta for One Care, then decided to try MSE. I like the fact that MSE does not take the kitchen sink approach, namely that it does not include a firewall, spam protection or disk defrag utility. With this being said, there was one show stopper when it came to my continued use of MSE. The program's virus and malware definition auto-update functionality is broken at the present time. In fact, this issue is the top post on the MSE Forum. I will have to take a pass on MSE until the auto-update issue has been corrected.

MSE is beating all other antiviruses and paid security suites.....I m a proud user of MSE and will stick with it now...It works very nicely.

we may get it by default with the next version of Windows 8....Like IE8 having an option to unistall....

MSE is installed by default on computers sold from the Microsoft Store.
