    Question What if the Temporary Internet Files folder is missing in Vista

    I keep getting a message over the last three days from Trend Micro Internet Security product that I have a Trojan that can't be fixed. Threat called Mal Hifrm aka Trojan. It tells me to go to my hidden Temp files which I do to remove the file. I have removed it once by luck.

    I found it using search.
    Deleted it and deleted from my recycle bin.

    However I can never find it using Explore and the path. I have used Tools to check show all hidden files but can't find Temporary Internet Files folder. I don't think I deleted the folder.

    In addition I run Webroot on it Webroot scans don't pick the Trojan up.

    Now I am getting a message that the virus exists in two distinct Temp files from my Trend Micro product.

    Any help from anyone here? Thanks M.

    Control Panel=>Internet Options=>General Tab

    Under "Browsing history" subheading, click "Settings" button.

    Click "View Files"

    Normally, this will be in Users\{Your User Name}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files

    If you still can't open it, you might need to run Command as an Administrator, then browse to the path you (hopefully) found through Internet Options. You might have to take back ownership of the folder and its container, if the Trojan somehow managed to take over ownership, and check permissions.

    I knew all this, of course, but in a hurry late at night to get pressing business done, trying to bump off a quick response to help, I made the dumb error of overlooking the possibility that the person might not be aware of Hidden Files and Folders, etc., in Folder Views.

    Duh! I overlooked the obvious!
