Default ZoneAlarm tries to explain reasons for popup message

A few days back, I had posted about how ZoneAlarm firewall was resorting to scareware tactics.

Well, Zone Alarm has now tried to explain why they did this!

The popup message in ZoneAlarm Free Firewall was intended as an alert to a virus our technology discovered. We wanted to proactively let our users know that ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and other AV products do not fully protect from this virus. It was never our intent to lead customers to believe they have a virus on their computer. This was purely an informative message about a legitimate and serious virus that also included information about the differences in protection of various products, and how to get protection against it. ZoneAlarm is committed to providing our customers with the best protection and considers it our job to proactively alert users whenever a potential risk is looming rather than wait for the damage to be done.
    Hmm.. OK ... whatever! !

History, Capt.Jack. People become accustomed to old shoes and find it difficult to part with them, even though the soles are warn and they are padded with cardboard. Ten years ago, ZA was considered the premier software firewall. Then Zone Labs was acquired by Check Point software and things went downhill from there.

    hi !

ZoneAlarm is also a very bad firewall...
although i did set all security-settings to maximum protection, it didnīt block properly.
i tested the latest version of ZA-Pro on W7 recently, with Comodoīs Leak Test (CLT) it only got 180/340 points !
btw. thatīs almost the same result as Windows Firewall which got 170/340...
i test firewalls on a USER-account, but also test on an ADMIN-account just to see how much difference it makes.

On the subject of ZA. They need to have better website researchers and not flag ligitimate sites.

Andy, I think you meant this thread: http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=75400 which is about Security Cadets.

I don't use ZA and don't even have any interest in installing it on my computer. However, maybe someone here at TWC does use ZA and would be willing to test whether they can get to the site, Security Cadets Forums
