hi there,
I have encountered a problem. I am using win xp.
when I open my desktop, microsoft windows XP logo screen appears. Then it says
" checking file system on D
the file system is NTFS......
If you want to skip then press any key.... etc etc..."
But when I press a key it does not work.
after showing some dialogs, it takes me to windows screen.
I believe it is a virus or something.
Can anybody help?

Don't hit a key, let it do its check.
While a virus is not impossible I would be more concerned about the drive. When you finally get to the Windows screen is it operational? If so get everything backed up ASAP.
Do you have a retail copy of Windows XP? If so you could attempt a repair install.
What brand is your hard drive? There is likely to be a diagnostic program from the manufacturer.

Yes, windows screen is working normally.
I guess the hard drive is seagate barracuda.
No I do not have a retail copy of Win XP.

Back up all your data right away to be safe.
Download and install from the following page a set of drive diagnostics from Seagate then run. Do your backup first as this diagnostics will probably be drive intensive and you want your data safe just in case. SeaTools for Windows | Seagate

I have used the seagate tools many times in the last few days but that does not solve the problem. Is there any other solution?
