Default How to Disable Windows Defender in Vista

    1. Click the Windows Start menu, type “msconfig” and then press Enter.
    2. Next, select the Startup tab.
    3. In the list of Startup items, look up the Windows Defender item and clear the checkbox in front of it.

    4. Click OK to confirm the change and close msconfig.

At the next computer startup, Windows Defender will no longer be loaded. You can enable Windows Defender in the same way, selecting the checkbox instead of clearing it.

Hmm... MSCONFIG ...my favorite config utility shipped with Windows.
Thanks for informative tip.. Best way to disable startup programs...and we can enable too as desired.

Is there any way to completely uninstal defender in vista, like we can do in Xp, and instead of that use some other spyware protector???

I like to use WinPatrol for startup control in lieu of msconfig - it has a much nicer GUI.

This is the first I've heard about disabling defender. Thanks eset for mentioning this. I'm curious though why someone would want this? Does this product have downsides that I'm not aware of? I've always like the software explorer feature for controlling start-up programs.
