Default How to Move personnel files in Windows Vista

In Windows Vista, you must define the location of files from your personal account users: Office, Contacts, Documents, My Pictures, etc... You can then save all your images on one partition, your videos and music on another and so on. In this way of separating your personal documents of the system, safeguarding your documents will be facilitated if the problem or reinstall Windows.

    1. Click the Start button and then click your user name at the top right of the menu.

    2. The list of systems records that contain personal data appears.

    3. For example, you click on the Images folder with the right mouse button and select Properties.

    4. In the window that appears, open the Locations tab.

    5. Then click the Move button.

    6. Now select the location where you stored your music and then click the Select Folder button.

    7. Click the OK button

    8. Confirm transfer by clicking the Yes button or if you want to stop the transfer click on No.

    9. Then repeat the operation for all system folders that you want to change the location.

    10. Now, using shortcuts to your images, documents, etc., you will be automatically redirected to the new locations.

Quite a useful tip, actually. This way you know that your data is safe on another non-system drive, should any problem ever occur.

Actually i did this in XP using reg tricks, don't have a XP machine right now. but honestly this is 1 very useful trick, especially for my Music as I keep my music not on my primary C, so changing the personal folder location is pretty helpful & neat to organize your data your way & yet have it easily accessible.

This is especially useful when you have 2 HDDs in your system. Moving your own folders/files to a partition on the "other" HDD does not only make it safer, it also speeds things up. I even moved some to a permanently mounted USB stick.

Yeah its same for W7 too...even you can organize your same type of contents in Libraries.

No doubt its useful tip...good thing is that we can move all personal files (documents, pictures, music, video, favs, links, downloads, searches etc...)
