Default Simple tip in Vista and 7 to tidy desk top icons

I have looked to see if this has been placed before but I can not find. I was looking at a friend's pc and they had a great picture but I couldn't see it because of the short cuts icons everywhere. So I showed them that they could remove the clutter while having easy access to those things they wanted. Just right click in an empty space, from the sub menu select new folder, then give it a name and then drag all the items related into it, do the same for others if they are not the same. Simple and effective way doing some "housework", now if only there was a simple to do my desk!
