Default Article: Netflix comes to Vista's Windows Media Center

US citizens using Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate now have access to Netflix via the Windows Media Center application.

Microsoft has announced that is has partnered with Netflix, the world's largest online movie rental service, making more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes available for instant watching via Windows Media Center (WMC) on PCs with Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate. The only other requirement for instant watching is Silverlight: since the experience, which is basically the same one from netflix.com, is powered by the Microsoft technology. The advantage of WMC is that one can easily navigate to a variety of content from different providers without having to jump around to various websites.

US citizens using Premium or Ultimate who are already Netflix members can simply start Windows Media Center on their PC and then select the new Netflix tile under TV+Movies (pictured right). They can start streaming movies and TV episodes, search the entire Netflix library, manage both their instant and DVD Queues, filter searches by titles that are available to watch instantly, and even use a WMC-compatible remote control to do it. Non-Netflix members are being offered a 14-day trial of the service within WMC.

This isn't the first partnership Microsoft has made with Netflix; in July 2008 the two companies announced that Xbox 360 system owners could access movies and TV episodes instantly from Netflix via an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership. For now, Microsoft says that Netflix support will only be offered in the WMC available in Vista, but I'm sure once Windows 7 is released that will quickly change.
