Question my "hide extension ..."does not work

    hi
i have so bad problem with my vista windows ,when i go to folder option and uncheck the"hise extension "and press ok,it does not work and i can not change my type file with rename them, when i back to folder option i see that the hise extension had checked again! and it is not useful to uncheck it again and again.
    how can i do?is it a bug?

You do NOT want to enable Hide extension of known file types. This is a threat.
If you get a file such as myfile.pdf.exe you may think it is a PDF file and if you
Double-Click it you are actually launching an EXE file and you will get infected!

No, it isn't a bug. Something is wrong on your system. Start by making sure
    the computer is virus/malware-free:

After you've done the necessary work and if the computer is clean, fill in
    more details per:

worked and the time they didn't?

Maybe he is trying to use it to unhide the extensions.
